A and S — Fletching — Sunday, May 13th

=============================================
FLETCHING!

Yes, it is Mother’s Day. Yes, it may rain; if it does, we may cancel this week’s A&S. Call me for verification if you wish, I will also post on FB.

FLETCHING!
Tomorrow/Sunday is A&S in BMDL, and this week’s class is on modern fletching, and will be taught by Master Urho Waltterinen. This is only the second time that Urho has taught for us, so please take advantage of this rare opportunity. Because this is a time-consuming process, as we must wait for the glue to dry, we are starting a little earlier than usual at 12:30. All of the jigs, glue, shafts, feathers and all the other things will be brought for us to learn on. Thanks, Urho!!

Location: Washington Boulevard martial practice site
Address: Allegheny River Blvd and Washington Blvd.
Directions: http://www.debatablelands.org/martial/fight_directions.php
Time: 12:30 PM.  Weather permitting!

NEW Standard disclaimers here:

We are much more accessible to our less mobile friends, have free parking, and a pet-friendly site. Yay!

However, keep in mind that you should bring everything you need for your comfort including a chair, a beverage or snack, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, cabana boy, musical instruments, boots, sun umbrella, foul weather gear, etc., etc., etc. Also, the site has a porta-john and no running water so please make appropriate preparations.

I will have a table and a jug of water so that you can refill your water bottles or mugs.

If you need assistance or have questions, please call or text me at 724-759-3333.

Thank you for asking! These meetings are free and there is no materials charge, as we are generously supported by the Barony and by those who teach.

See you there!  Elss Augsburg

Sunday!

Bardic Circle!

May 6th! Washington Blvd practice site, 1 PM!

Everyone is invited — bards, wanna-be bards, new people, choir members, band members, drummers, I-don’t-know-the-goddamn-words singers, loud singers, cowbell players, yes, you should come too. Can’t sing? Sit next to me, you’ll sound great! Instruments welcome, singers welcome, everybody welcome!

I will be bringing some printouts from here and elsewhere:   http://www.aebards.org/songs/. Alas, I will not be able to set up a campfire for us to sit around, but that means we can be free-form instead of circular!

Brewer’s Guild update

Exciting news for anyone who likes to brew (or drink): the Brewers Guild is up and running again! Lady Alysoun of the Debatable Lands is taking over as Guildmistress, and Lord Ronan O’Conall is her Deputy.

After polling the populace for interest, we have received 15 responses so far from people who would like to be involved in the guild. They range from beginners to experts and hail largely from BMDL, though some are further afield. We have also had great support from the Æthelmearc Brewers Guild, which is pushing out our news to their network as well.

Any and all interested parties are welcome to join the monthly meetings, which will be held at Alysoun’s home in Pleasant Hills. They will take place at 7pm on the first Wednesday of the month, unless otherwise noted.

At the time of this update, we are looking forward to our first meeting, which will be held on May 2 and will serve as a planning session to determine how best to create value for our members and the society at large. Please look for additional updates on the barony blog and on Facebook as we get organized. You can always reach Alysoun here with questions: alisonlsteele@gmail.com

Baron Leonard Memorial Article

Mistress Arianna has written a very lovely memorial article for our Baron Leonard for the AEthelmearc Gazette. I encourage everyone to read it, even if you never met him. Len is a very big part of why our Barony is the way we are. He and his Baroness are missed.

In Memoriam: Baron Leonard the Younger, OL

In Levitate et Caritate,
Baroness Hilda

Reminder that youth combat will be at the castle this week. Fighting will begin at 2pm. I look forward to seeing everyone.

Chatelaine election and call for letters

Dear BMDL,

My term as Chatelaine will be coming to an end in June, and I will be seeking a second term, however, I am calling for letters. Send your letter to the Baronage and to me – baron(at)debatablelands.org, baroness(at)debatablelands.org, seneschal(at)debatablelands.org, and chatelaine(at)debatablelands.org.

The deadline for letters is May 31st 2018 to allow sufficient time for your letter to be reviewed by the Officers’ prior to the June Business Meeting.

In Service,
