Archery Muster at the Castle!

We will not be having Archery Practice at the usual Highland Park site.

Instead come to the Archery Muster this Sunday, April 9th at the Castle. 755 Stonegate Drive. 10am to 5pm.

We will have Archery practice out the Castle’s side gate, and archers will be welcomed to shoot a novelty off the castle roof!

It’s a potluck so bring something delicious to share!

New Webminister

Following much avid discussion in the officer meeting, a vote was taken and your new Webminister in Master Kameshima Zentarou Umakai!

This is still Ishiyama writing right now, but I will be meeting with Master Kameshima in the near future to hand off responsibility for the site and this blog. He and his deputy Lady Kathryn have some big plans for the web site, so if you have ideas or needs make sure to talk to them soon!

It has been an honor to serve the Barony as its webminister, and my thanks to my deputy Master Broom.

A&S at Archery Muster

Greetings, Debatable Landers!

Recently, we have learned about quite a few new things at A&S, and perhaps, like me, you have a few unfinished things to, well, finish up. How’s that naalbinding going? Finish your St Brigitta’s cap yet? Doing OK with those comets?

Come to the Archery Muster this Sunday, April 9th at the Castle. Bring those unfinished projects with you and we will see about getting them completed! I will have my sewing stuff, embroidery threads, an inkle loom, beads, a couple of books, and other bits and bobs, just in case. Join me in the great room with your projects!

If you need directions, more info, whatever, just ask.

Officer’s Meeting – This Wednesday

The Officer’s Meeting will be held this Wednesday, 5 April 2017 from 8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at TechShop in East Liberty (192 Bakery Square Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15206).

From the Baronial Exchequer:

“The next Officer’s meeting on April 5th is the annual budget meeting. Although only officers on the financial committee can vote, a number of people spend money for the Barony. If you anticipate an expense this year for the Barony, that the Barony should pay for, please submit a request. It should include a description of the item(s) and estimated cost. It would be great if you email it ahead of time to exchequer, because it makes the budget meeting go faster. You should also attend the budget meeting, if possible, if you submit an expense. It is nice to be able to ask questions if we don’t understand the expense. I have copies of last year’s approved budget.”

The Exchequer can be contacted via email at exchequer(at)debatablelands(dot)org.

Along with the budget, we have two event bids and the term of office for Webminister is up and we have only received one letter of intent at this time, but as letters are not due until the meeting itself, we may receive letters at the last moment and will need time to review them prior to discussion and voting. So, we may need every moment of our time, so things will get started promptly at 8p.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone this Wednesday!

First Friday’s at Keirin an Odriana’s

This coming Friday, 7 April 2017 at 6:00 p.m. is First Friday!

What is First Friday? I’m glad that you asked. It’s an opportunity to socialize, for the most part. We have a loose framework of hanging out and enjoying/talking about Medieval food and an unofficial fighter practice. You don’t like to cook, but you like food? Come and eat. You like to watch fighting but don’t like to fight, then you should come to watch fighting.

So, bring a medieval dish to share, print out or write up your recipe and tell us a little bit about what you find interesting about the dish, or what you enjoy about the dish. Tell us a little bit about your experience making it and we’ll eat and hang out. With Ice Dragon being the next day, if you’re traveling in the morning, my oven/stove are open to you. If you want some help with your documentation, bring it.

If you’re unfamiliar with medieval cooking and need some direction, here are a couple of useful links for beginner recipes that you can try:

Godecookery – “A Boke of Good Cookery”

Medievalcookery – “Medieval Recipes”

With the weather getting nicer, I am considering doing some outdoor cooking (we have a fire pit for just such purposes) and wanted to see if there was any interest from other people. We’d probably do that for June, unless the weather is super dry between now and the end of the month.

If you aren’t much into cooking, but totally into eating, you should come, too.

For those of you who aren’t so much into cooking, but are into Heavy Weapons, there will be some unofficial practicing taking place. Bring your armor and have some fun.

Parking on our property is limited, however, the near side of the parking lot next to our property is available to you for parking. There is no sidewalk, so we recommend dropping your passengers/armor off at the house and then parking next door.

To help us anticipate how many people will be coming, please either RSVP via email (jenn.strobel(at)gmail(dot)com) or by indicating that you are attending at the facebook event.
