Barony Meeting and Garb Swap – TODAY

Good morning, Barony!

Today is supposed to be hot and a bit humid, but not overwhelming. It’s exactly the kind of day that would be perfect for joining your friends at the Washington Blvd practice site for a Barony Meeting, Garb Swap, A&S Meeting, Instrumental Jam Session (bring your Crumhorn!), and Beginner Pennsic Class.

With so much going on, you’re pretty much guaranteed to find something that you’d enjoy!

Things get started at 1:00 p.m. and end around 3:00 p.m.

The Garb Swap will run by the usual rules — Newcomers first then everyone else. We are also being asked to bring an item to donate to Paladin’s Pantry or CareBox Pittsburgh.. This is not a sale, this is a giveaway.

The A&S Meeting is a bring-a-project session. Bring a project, a chair, and yourself. Spend some time with other artisans and enjoy the day. Water will be provided so you can refill your water bottles.

You are invited to bring your crumhorns, recorders, lutes, strings, etc. and join Master Remus in a medieval jam session.

Immediately following the Barony Meeting, there will be a class for new Pennsic-goers called “So, it’s your first Pennsic” being held by Lord Yoshi and Lord Ronin. This is a valuable class that will give you a better idea of what to expect and what kinds of things you can do at Pennsic. Even if you’re not able to attend this year and would like to get an idea of what Pennsic is like, this class would also be useful for you.

Please join us for the Meeting and all of the other activities planned for today. There is a Facebook Event for this here.

We can’t wait to see you there!!

A and S — Garb Swap — Sunday, July 15

No, A&S will not “be” the garb swap, but because it is such a fun and exciting and distracting time, there will be no formal class this Sunday. I will be there as usual, weaving or fingerlooping, so feel free to join me. I will have all the stuff needed to braid.

Location: Washington Blvd martial practice site
Address: Allegheny River Blvd and Washington Blvd
Directions: http://www.debatablelands.org/martial/fight_directions.php
Time: 1:00 PM.  Weather permitting!

Standard disclaimers here:

We are now accessible to our less mobile friends, have free parking, and a pet-friendly site. Yay!

However, keep in mind that you should bring everything you need for your comfort including a *chair*, a beverage or snack, bug spray, sunscreen, hat, cabana boy, rain boots, scuba suit, etc., etc., etc. Also, the site has a porta-john and no running water should you wish to make appropriate preparation.

I will have a table and a jug of water so that you can refill your water bottles or mugs.

If you need assistance or have questions, please call or text me at 724-759-3333.

Thank you for asking! These meetings are free and there is no materials charge, as we are generously supported by the Barony and the teachers themselves.

Baronial Dinner at Pennsic

BMDL
The Barony marche of the Debatable Lands

Hello Debatable Lands and friends! This year’s Baronial Reception at Pennsic will be during Middle Weekend, on Sunday the 5th starting up at 5pm. I’m going to be putting together some “light dinner” level food for everyone, and the current plan looks something like this-

Standard carb n’ dairy snacks (Bread, herbed butters, crackers, cheeses)
Cured meats
Veggies, both fresh and pickled
Seasonal fruits
Warm carrot slaw w/ toasted mustard seed
Bruised kale
Chicken salad
Stonefruit meatballs (Beef)
White bean pseudo-Hummus
German-style potato salad

Specifics are liable to shift depending on price and availability, but the general idea is there. If you have any questions, concerns, dietary restrictions, offers to help, or things you’d like to donate, then please send me an email at legbascrossroad(at)gmail(dot)com with “Baronial Dinner!” or something like that in the subject line.

Also, please really do email me if you have dietary restrictions. I specialize in allergen-friendly cooking, and I revel in a challenge. I -will- make sure you have something to eat. Current restrictions I’m already planning for are vegetarian, kosher, peanut, tree nut, gluten, and dairy. If you are any one of those you’ll be able to eat most of the menu, no adjustments needed.

See you all at Pennsic!

Barony Meeting This Sunday!!

It’s that time of year again, everyone that is going to Pennsic is furiously sewing, packing, and updating their calendars with classes, courts, vigils, parties, and get-togethers of many varieties. For those attending their first Pennsic, it can all be a little overwhelming. It can also be a bittersweet time for those unable to attend Pennsic this year.

This Sunday we have our July Barony Meeting at the Washington Blvd practice site. Things get started at 1:00 p.m. EDT, which is also when the Garb Swap will begin. Here is the announcement from Baroness Constance, our Garb Swap Coordinator:

Brewers Guild – July Meeting Tomorrow

Hello brewers and friends!
We’ve got a lot going on at our meeting tomorrow night.
First of all, Nohaaj (John Rozborski) will be hosting the meeting! His address is 8490 Remington Drive, 15237, in the North Hills.
And because so much is going on at this meeting, we will be STARTING AT 5PM for people who can make it that early. (For those who can’t, come when you can.) Nohaaj will be doing an all-grain beer of his own, and we will also be starting the wine for Twelfth Night.

As always, bring something (yours or not) you would like to share and discuss with the group.
And finally, if anyone is interested in sausage on the grill instead of pizza, please let Nohaaj know in the comments below. (I will bring a yummy vegetarian sausage as an option if we grill instead of ordering pizza.)

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
