Kingdom-wide A&S Challenge!

Greetings to the Populace artisans of AEthelmearc from THL Eleanore Godwin, Kingdom Deputy A&S Minister.

Announcing a new A&S challenge for the artisans of the Kingdom: A one year long Event Token Competition, running from Spring AEcademy 2019 to Spring AEcademy 2020!

How many event tokens have you kept over the years because they are great memories, or just beautiful? Well, we want groups to up their game and put some thought into their event tokens!

So, how does one participate you ask? Volunteer to make your group’s tokens for an event they put on!

First; every group can have at least one entry, and as many as three!

Second; groups have from June 15th 2019 Spring AEcademy to Spring (June date to be announced) AEcademy 2020 to make tokens for their events and present their entries for the competition at Spring AEcademy 2020.

Divisions are :1. Kingdom Event tokens, and 2. All Other Events tokens. The reason for this is that the Kingdom events often have a higher budget for tokens, whereas non-kingdom events do not

Categories are: A. Period tokens, B. Useful tokens, and C. Creative tokens.
Each group may have 1 entry in each category, for a max of three total entries. One token, one category. So, if your group hosted a Kingdom event, the token from that event would be put in the Kingdom Event token Division, in one of the three Categories, Period, Useful, or Creative. If your group hosted a regular event, that token can be entered in one of the 2. All
Other Events tokens Divisions Categories, A,B, or C. If your group held 3 regular events in the time frame, your group gets to enter 3 different tokens in 3 different categories! If your group held one Kingdom event, that token gets to be entered into the Kingdom Division in one of the three Categories. Say your group also held two regular event; those two tokens would be entered in the All Other Events token Division in two of the three categories for a total of 3 entries!

I think this will be an exciting year for the artisans of AEthelmearc, and I look forward to seeing all the entries at Spring AEcademy next Spring!

What do you want to learn or teach?

Greetings from the A&S Minister’s office! We set up a display of sorts at the archery muster yesterday and had some smashing success with newcomers! What you can’t see in this picture is a table full of sign up sheets for each of these items. Those sign up sheets have 2 columns: “I want to learn more!” and “I can teach this!” So, what about you? Is there something that you want to learn more about or something that you can teach? Send me your SCA name and email address at ansminister @ debatablelands .org (remove spaces!) Obviously, this is not an exhaustive list of A&S in the barony, but is just a sampling. If you don’t see it on this list but want to learn it or teach it, send me that too!

New Arts and Sciences Minister

Greetings all! I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself to those that I don’t know yet. I’m Isabel Fleuretan and have been selected as the new A&S Minister for BMDL. First, I’d like to thank The Honorable Lady Elss of Augsburg for her service as A&S Minister. She did a phenomenal job and has left big shoes to fill. I’d also like to thank Shonagon Ishiyama Gen’tarou Yori’ie for his service as deputy and his previous service as A&S Minister. You both have shaped the arts and sciences in the barony and leave a legacy to live up to.
I consider the most important duty of this office to be acting as a liaison between those that want to learn and those that can teach. If there is anything that I can do to help you learn or teach A&S within the barony or just within the SCA in general, please reach out to me at ansminister@debatablelands.org .
In the coming weeks, I’ll be looking to get some new A&S scheduled activities up and running. I’ll also be looking to recruit a deputy. If you are interested in learning something in particular, interested in teaching something in particular, or are interested in learning what it is to be an officer or deputy within the barony, please send me a note.

Call for Letters — Minister of Arts and Sciences

Greetings to the Barony from your Minister of Arts and Sciences!

It has been my privilege and great pleasure to serve the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands as the Minister of Arts and Sciences for two years. My term is coming to an end and so I call for letters from anyone who wishes to run for the office. I will not be seeking a second term, as I would like to work on activating the Food Guild.

My activities for the last two years have been:
** Collecting information on A&S-related activities in the Barony and reporting it to the Kingdom.
** Encouraging others to explore the arts and sciences by holding regular meetings with interesting guests who demonstrate their expertise in many and varied activities.
** Participating in activities such as demos and classes to support the wider A&S community.

Should you have questions about the duties associated with this position, please email me at ansminister@debatablelands.org.

Any gentle who would be considered for this two-year position is invited to send an email with a list of qualifications to me at ansminister@debatablelands.org and to the Seneshale, Meestres Odriana vander Brugghe, at seneschal@debatablelands.org.

In service to the Barony-Marche,

A and S — NEW Location! – November 4th

A&S IS MOVING!

WHY?___The weather continues to limit our activities at Washington Boulevard, and the coming winter means we need an indoor space.

WHERE?___It is very exciting to be meeting at Protohaven! We will be able to do so many more things! This is a maker space at 214 N Trenton Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15221. It is a couple of miles from the martial practice field, very near Wilkensburg. See the website below for a link to directions.

WHEN?___Starting November 4th, we will meet there every first Sunday of the month from 1pm to 3pm. We may need to reschedule because of the weather or holidays, but there will be at least one A&S meeting every month, and possibly more.

WHAT?___Protohaven has lots of cool equipment, such as sewing machines, laser cutters, a wood shop, and tons of other things to play with. There is plenty of parking in the lot and on the street, and is accessible to all.

Possible projects include making keepsake boxes, armor stands, banner-painting, and making a frame to paint your banner on. Let’s hear your ideas!

WHO?___As always, everyone is welcome. Service animals are always welcome.

DISCLAIMER___Protohaven takes safety very seriously, and operation of the machinery is limited to those who have been taught how to use them. Fortunately, there are people to help us, and we will still be able to complete projects with their assistance.
