Court Report for Archers to the Wald
October 13, AS XLVII (2012)

Report of the Court of Their Excellencies Uilliam and Constance Baron and Baroness of the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands, at Archers to the Wald, in the Canton of Steltonwald, on the thirteenth day of October anno societatis forty-seven, Lord Jorundr hinn Rotinn reporting, with the assistance of Lord Markus Skalpr Grimsson.

Their Excellencies thanked the assembled populace for attending the event held this day. They further remarked on the good time They had at the event.

Their Excellencies summoned Master Jocopo di Niccolo to attend Them. Jocopo had won a certain tournament at this event last year, which made him the archery champion of the barony, Their Excellencies inquired of him if was ready to relinquish that position. Jocopo replied that he was ready and that today he had run a tournament to choose Their new champion. That individual, Maistir Brandubh Ó Donnghaile, had won the day in an hour long bear pit style tournament with 10 total competitors, 8 of whom were eligible for the position of champion. Jocopo added his arrow to the baronial quiver and passed the regalia to Brandubh, Brandubh was invited to join Their Excellencies' Court, which he accepted. Their Excellencies then requested Lord Robert MacEwen of Thornhill and Elizabeth Wilbur, Their youth archery champions, to attend Them. Robert and Elizabeth had also run a tournament to choose their successor this day. The tournament pitted 6 shooters against each other over a series of rounds at various targets that the duo had designed. The victor in the end was chosen, Lady Lyssa von Stahlgeist, who had been shooting a crossbow for the second time. The regalia was passed to Lady Lyssa and she was invited to join Their Excellencies' Court. Scroll by Zhang Ming Li.

Their Excellencies called Their thrown weapons champion THLord Kieran MacRae to Their Presence. Kieran had also held a tournament this day to choose his successor. From a field of 11 competitors, with the forms of knife, axe and spear in which all scored, there was a clear victor. Sir Thomas Byron of Haverford with a score of 41. The baronial axe was passed on to Byron and he was asked to join Their Excellencies' Court. Scroll illuminated by Master Alaric MacConnal and caligraphed by THL Kieran MacRae.

Ingunn Halldorsdottir was invited to appear before Their Excellencies. As the autocrat Ingunn had sponsored a marshal's choice award the category was "Most Likely to Appear in an ESPN Highlight Reel." Today on Juan Miguel's roving range there was one target where the archer was to sit on a barrel and turn around to shoot a target behind them to simulate shooting from horseback. The archer in question instead chose to bend over backwards and shoot the arrow upside down, scoring a hit. THLord Deryk Archer was invited into court in recognition of this feat.

Ingunn was bade to stay a moment longer. Their Excellencies had heard much of the good works that Ingunn has been doing lately. She has taken the position of deputy exchequer of the Canton of Steltonwald, and autocrating this event all with two young children at home, For this Their Excellencies inducted her into the Order of the Gold Comet. Their Excellencies invited Odriana vander Brugghe Their Court. Odriana wished to recognize those scribes who had done work on baronial scrolls in the past year, without whom Odriana's job as signet would have been impossible.

Master Robert Marston asked leave of their Excellencies to perform some business in Their Court, which They granted. Robert announced that he had taken Ingunn Halldorsdottir as a protege just a month ago. He would also like to announce that at War Practice he had asked an individual to become his protege and man at arms and that today he was pleased to make that relationship known to the Barony at large. Lord Aiden Gunn was invited to court where he agreed to wear Master Robert's yellow belt, the end of which can be used as a bottle opener. Aiden's lady Cionaodh Gunn was invited to place the belt around Aiden's waist. Master Robert thanked Their Excellencies' for Their time.

Their Excellencies called Nycolas Sparrowe to Their Court. They spoke of the many good things that They had heard off Nycolas' fencing. Such as he had been fencing for over 4 years and had been a long defender of the Kingdom at the Pennsic War. He had been working on training new fencers, as well as developing period styles from the German and Italian masters. For this They inducted him into Their Order of the Red Comet. Their Excellencies invited Lady Muirgheal inghean Dubhghail to come before Them. Their Excellencies spoke of Muirgheal's long years as an archer and an archery marshal, and that she had recently learned to fence and had defended the Kingdom's honor at The Great Pennsic War. THLord Bóvi Farmaðr presented a collection of deserts for the populace to enjoy, the centerpiece of which was a cake in the form of a slain dragon made by the skilled hands of Lady Cionaodh Gunn.

Their Eexcellencies thanked all who attended and wished to bring special notice the the fast that this was Lord Markus' first time heralding in court.

Their Excellencies wished all who were in attendance to join them in singing "Happy Birthday" to Elizabeth Wilbur who turned 14 this day.
