Call for Letters: Chronicler and Call for Content for the Althing

Greetings to the populace from your Chronicler, Silence!

I write with two missives. First, I am assembling the newsletter wrapping up the final quarter of 2023, and as we lost some dear members of our barony in this past calendar year, I would like to hold space in the Althing for photos, memories, or words the populace wishes to share to commemorate them. As I am formatting the newsletter this week, if you know you want to send something but aren’t sure what, please feel free to drop a line and say “Hey Silence, please save a spot for me,” and I will reach out before I publish, which I anticipate to be in two weeks.

Second, my 2-year term comes to an end, and I am formally issuing a call for letters of intent should anyone be interested in becoming the next Chronicler. I am seeking a second term and I am also seeking a deputy to train. The Chronicler is in charge of producing the Althing, the newsletter for the Barony. Past issues are available at http://debatablelands.org/newsletter/ for your perusal. Any gentles wishing to submit a letter of intent should email both seneschal [at] debatablelands [dot] org and chronicler [at] debatablelands [dot] org by the next business meeting, which will be February 7th. If you are interested in becoming Chronicler or becoming my deputy, please email me at chronicler [at] debatablelands [dot] org and I will be happy to discuss what that entails!

In Service and Song,
Silence

Call for Letters – Barony Webminister

Salve Accolens!

As my term as the current Webminister of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands comes to a close in April, I wanted to invite all interested and qualified members to submit a letter of intent for the position as I am not seeking a second term.

If you are passionate about the Barony and have the necessary skills and experience, I encourage you to consider submitting a letter of intent by the April business meeting. I will happily act as deputy in order to assure a smooth transition as long as I am needed. For technical skills, you should have a basic understanding of HTML. Most of the role involves being able to promptly respond to email requests to publish new information to the site, blog, and Barony calendar.

Please include your qualifications, relevant experience, and vision for the role in your letter of intent. As a reminder, in order to be considered for the position, you must be a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism in good standing and a member of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands.

You can submit your letter of intent via email to Their Excellencies, Baron Brandubh and Baroness Hilderun, and to our Seneschal, Baroness Muirgheal by April 12, 2023.

In service to the Barony,

Reinhard Regenbogen, Outgoing Webminister of the Barony Marche of the Debatable Lands

Call for Letters – Chatelaine

Greetings good people of the Debatable Lands!

After a rather lengthy term that has spanned both times of plague and times of peace, my term as Chatelaine has come to an end. I do not intend to serve another term and so I am hereby putting forth a call for letters!

If you have an interest in becoming the next Chatelaine of the Debatable Lands please submit your letter of intent to Their Excellencies, Baron Brandubh and Baroness Hilderun, and to our Seneschal, Baroness Muirgheal by Aug. 24th, 2022. This is the date of our next business meeting where the candidates for the office will be voted upon.

If you have any questions about what the office of the Chatelaine entails, how to submit a letter of intent, or where to send your letter, please reach out to me at chatelaine@debatablelands.org.

It has been a pleasure serving you all!

In service,
Ronan Ó Conaill
Chatelaine of the Debatable Lands

Call for Letters: Webminister

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima Zentarou Umakai, Webminister.

For the last four years, it has been my honor and privilege to serve as the Baronial Webminister. In that time, we have seen the modernization of the Baronial Website, the flourishing of Stórfréttir, the Baronial Blog, and its establishment as a primary means of information dissemination throughout the Barony.

Alas, all good things must come to an end, and my second term in this office will do so at the Baronial Business meeting currently scheduled for April 7th. Thus, as is tradition in our Barony, I am calling for letters of intent for this office.

The website is coded in HTML, CSS and PHP, so familiarity with those technologies is certainly desirable in a potential candidate. Stórfréttir is written on the WordPress platform, so again, experience with that platform is a plus. However, nothing on the website involves coding at a particularly deep level, so someone with basic programming knowledge should be able to pick up what is needed. And, of course, there is an Officer’s Handbook available that explains most of the ins and outs.

Letters of intent should be submitted to webminister@debatablelands.org and seneschal@debatablelands.org no later than April 7th. Any questions can be directed to me at webminister@debatablelands.org.

In Honor and Service,
亀島

Seneschal – Call for Letters is Closed

I want to thank everyone that considered sending in a letter and sent in a letter. The deadline passed yesterday 28 December 2019. The official vote for our new seneschal will take place at the 5 February 2020 business meeting.

I don’t have the words to truly express what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve the Barony as its Seneschal for the last four years. Thank you to everyone that made my job a true pleasure and I look forward to seeing how my successor will serve you.

Call for Letters – Seneschal

After nearly four years serving this fine Barony, it is time for me to step down as your Seneschal. I am officially calling for letters and requesting that letters be sent to me (seneschal at debatablelands.org) and the Baron (baron at debatablelands.org) and Baroness (baroness at debatablelands.org) by 28 December 2019.

The job of Seneschal is rewarding and unexpectedly difficult at times. It is a way to serve the fine populace of the Debatable Lands in a deep, meaningful way. Take time with your decision and ask many questions. There are quite a few former Seneschals in the Barony still participating (Baroness Hilda being one of them) that are your resources for the reality of the everyday job. If you are interested in becoming the Seneschal and want more information about what the job entails, please contact me directly and I will be happy to talk with you about what the needs are and how the Seneschal serves the Barony. There are also online resources such as the Seneschal’s Handbook (http://socsen.scaserver.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/Seneschals-Handbook-January-2018.2.pdf) that you can use to inform yourself before making a decision.

I don’t have the words to truly express what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve the Barony as its Seneschal for the last several years.

My term is officially over in February, however, I want to ensure that there is enough time for people to make informed choices prior to submitting a letter. Again, remember that the deadline for letters is 28 December 2019. Thank you all for your time and for allowing me to be your Seneschal for the last four years.

I don’t have the words to truly express what an honor and a privilege it has been to serve the Barony as its Seneschal for the last several years. I am thankful and grateful that I was blessed with such a strong foundation of Seneschals throughout the history of the Barony and to have the support of my Deputies, THL Muirgheal and Maighster Liam. I have always believed in the exceptionalness of the Debatable Lands and still do. You are all amazing, talented, intelligent, and skilled people in your own ways and having a vantage point where I could best see so many of you was one of the great joys of my life.
