Debatable Lands Pennsic Baronial Party and Court

Hello Debatable Lands!

Baron Brandubh and Baroness Hilda invite you to celebrate our Barony at the Great Pennsic War this August. Eat, drink, attend Court, be very merry, and bring your towels!

The Party will run from 5pm to 8pm on the middle Sunday of Pennsic War, August 7th, in the Aethelmearc Royal Encampment. Please come and enjoy food, drink, and most importantly, each others’ company!

We will be holding our 3rd Court during the party, and we hear rumors of some Very Special Guests!

Maighstir Liam is coordinating food for the light dinner. The Barony (through Liam) will be providing two protein entrees, plus water and lemonade. We are asking people to bring side dishes, desserts, and “other” beverages (the SCA doesn’t serve alcohol, but *you* can!) If you can contribute, please let Maighstir Liam know by adding to the list here:http://www.luckypotluck.com/potluck/BMDLPennsicParty

We hope to see everyone there, at this celebration of our fair Barony!

~Hilda and Brandubh

PS: For those who knew and loved her, there will be a memorial for Countess Aidan just after our party, starting at 8:30, run by her friends, at AE Royal. Mistress Irene’s Vigil to contemplate inclusion into the Order of the Laurel will also be after the party, in the Debatable Lands encampment, block N10.

Reminder: Scriptorium tomorrow

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima! This is your reminder that tomorrow night is the monthly Scribes Guild meeting, from 7pm until 9pm at our house in the North Hills. If you need our address and/or directions, please contact me via email and I will get them to you, or check in the Dark Pages.

This month we will be hosting an Open Project and Small Group Workshop night, where you can bring your current projects, and/or work with others present to improve or learn those skills you’ve been meaning to focus on. If you have specific requests, it’s not too late to make them! Send me an email with what you’re looking for, and we will try to arrange for someone to be there to work with you. (At this point, however, we can’t make promises.)

We look forward to seeing you there!

Award Recommendations Wanted!

Hello Debatable Lands, from Hilda and Brandubh, Baron and Baroness.

Our next Baronial Court is at Pennsic at the Debatable Lands Party, Middle Sunday in Aethelmearc Royal. It is our honor to be able to recognize those members of our Barony (including the Canton and College) with local awards. We are seeking recommendations!

Q: So, who can recommend folks?

A: Anyone! From the newest new folks to the people that have been around for decades!

Q: Who should you recommend?

A: Any gentle that lives in the Barony (including our Canton and College), and who contributes to the Barony in some way. We also have an “Friend of the Barony” type award for people that live outside our borders, but who have contributed to our Barony.

Q: What Baronial awards can we recommend people for?

A: The main Baronial award is the Comet. We separate the different areas of interest by color, or Branubh and I are using metals for our tenure for a few of them:
A Gold Comet is for service to the Barony.
A Silver Comet (previously blue-silver) is for excellence in Arts and Sciences in the Barony.
An Iron Comet (previously red) is for excellence in one or more of the martial activities here in the Barony.
Purple Comets are given to the youth of the Barony who contribute in any field.
A Comitus Amicus (previously green) is our “friend of the Barony” award, given to those who contribute to the Debatable Lands (any field, but usually service), but who do not live within our borders.

We also have an Order, the Order of Copernicus, given out rarely, and to those Barony members who have made a long-term, very positive impact here.

Q: How do you recommend people?

A: By private email, please. Or in person or by social media (private message), but it helps to follow up by email. You can reach us at baron@debatablelands.org, and baroness@debatablelands.org.

Q: How do we know if the worthy gentle already has a Comet?

A: Check out our Order of Precedence here: http://debatablelands.org/herald/op/

But you may notice that people can receive more than one Comet! Lots of folks have be awarded multiple Comets over the years, of the same and different colors, in recognition of continued contributions. Go ahead and recommend someone for Comet, even if they have one. It’s not likely that we’ll award a Comet of the same category within a year or two of the last one to someone, but it doesn’t hurt to recommend anyway! People are inducted into the Order of Copernicus just once.

Q: What if you want to recommend a Kingdom award?

A: Please do! You can use the form here: http://www.aethelmearc.org/onlineaward/, and it will get to the Royalty. And hey, if you want to drop me and Brandubh a note telling us about that recommendation, we could send one for that person, too!

Reminder: Pennsic Pre-Reg Deadline June18th

Hello! Here’s another reminder that Pennsic Pre-Registration ends June 18th! If you want to camp with the Debatable Lands, you MUST pre-reg, paid!

Here’s some info from the Pennsic folks:

Online prepaid registration for Pennsic will end on June 18th, 11:59pm EDT. With that in mind here are a few questions that have come up frequently for us at the Land Office:

Q: How much space is allotted to a group or camper per paid pre-registration?
A: About 250 square feet per person.

Q: Does an unpaid pre-registration reserve space for my group?
A: No, it does not. Unpaid pre-registrations are purely to provide convenience at troll, as your information will already be available in the computer system.

Sunday Practices (or not), June 12

Knight Marshal Isenwulf:

There will be heavy practice this Sunday, weather permitting, at the Washington Boulevard site, beginning at 2 PM.  I will be unavailable so Robert will be running the practice.

Captain of Archers Katheryn:

Due to the events of this weekend, there will not be Archery Practice this Sunday. Enjoy your events. And for those Archers going to the Hornwood Inn, I want to see a lot of iron tassels at our next practice.

Thrown Weapons Marshal Kuma:

There will be thrown weapons practice Sunday, and we may have the whole fields to ourselves. There will be 2 challenge targets, Simon says and the hanging man. Come on out and throw.

Deputy Youth Marshal Arianna:

While Mistress Fredeburg is unavailable, I will be running Youth Fighting from 2-5 pm this Sunday at the Washington Blvd. site. Map here: https://goo.gl/maps/K5K28wB4gRU2 There will be loaner gear and freezer pops!

Scribal Workshop, July 10th

The Scribes’ Guild announces:

SAVE the date!

There will be a workshop offered at CMU in the Debatable Lands on Sunday, July 10th from 10 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This workshop will focus on the techniques used in The Book of Hours of Louis of Orleans or what I refer to as the “French Quilt” style- bands in the marginalia filled with acanthus and flowers. Have you wanted to learn how to flat gild, master acanthus and the French flowers and strawberries? This workshop is for you!

I assume everyone’s summer is as busy as mine so I am posting a tidbit so that you may save the date should you wish to participate in this workshop.

For more information email me at MistressAntoinettedelaCroixAT gmail.com (please replace the word AT with @ and leave no blank spaces.

PS: Gladzor Book of Hours is coming your way at Pennsic!
