ISO: Groups, Guilds, Meetings, and Practices

Hello everyone!

Coming to you live and in technicolor, it’s your chatelaine Svava! I’m actually in a bit of a pickle and looking for assistance from everyone.

As you know, part of my role is helping folks new to the SCA and new to the area find their niche in our game. From rapier to scribal to cooking and forestry, we have so many wonderful groups and guilds in our barony. I love seeing the various ways people play in the SCA and the different interests one could explore! I’d love to help people find new parts of the SCA they can fall in love with.

~HOWEVER~

Finding the information about these groups and their meetings is rough, even for me. If you run any official SCA activity in the barony could you please take a moment to check if it’s listed correctly on the baronial calendar and under the What We Do header on the website? This would help me guide folks curious about your area of interest to you AND show what a vibrant and active community we have in the barony.

If you find your meeting or practice information is incorrect or missing, please reach out to the Web Minister at webminister@debatablelands.org

Thank You Kindly,
Svava

Woodworking this Sunday

With the banner stand project behind us, we have a day in the shop to work on our own stuff! If you have any wood projects you need or want for Pennsic, now’s your chance to get advice and help making them. If you have no ideas, bring a 6 or 8 foot board from the hardware store and we’ll help you figure out something useful to make from it.

Join us on Sunday, July 14th for the last Woodworking Guild Shop Day before Pennsic, in Ishiyama’s shop in Point Breeze, from 10am to 2pm.

Send email to “woodworking (at) debatablelands.org” if you have any questions or need the address.

Also, don’t forget our next planning meeting on Thursday, August 22nd where we’ll be planning out our autumn schedule and post-Pennsic projects.

Woodworking Guild Updates

We had another planning meeting on Thursday, May 23rd at the Panera in Oakland. We discussed the state of the banner stand project, possible future projects, and the meeting schedule going forward.

The banner stands are coming along, but the pieces still need to be sanded, finished, and assembled. To that end, we will be having another workshop day at Ishiyama Shonagon’s shop.

A completed banner stand
  • Sunday, June 2nd. – Workshop day to complete the banner stands. 10am to 2pm at Ishiyama Shonagon’s.
  • Thursday, June 20th – Planning meeting. 7pm – 9pm at the Oakland Panera.
  • Sunday, July 14th – Workshop day to help complete your projects for Pennsic. Time and place to be determined.
  • Thursday, August 22nd – Post-Pennsic meeting to discuss classes we took and plans for the Autumn. 7pm to 9pm, probably at the Oakland Panera.

Food Guild Announced

Food!! Glorious Food!!

The inaugural meeting of the Food Guild will be at the Archery Muster at 1 PM, on April 7, the day after Coronation. If you like cooking, or baking, or experimenting with recipes, or eating food that other people prepare, then this is where you want to be.

We’ll talk about what we want to do, what we want to learn, what we are interested in, and where we are going with this guild. We will also be making cheese, and testing various flavor combinations.
