Cooking and Socializing with Odriana TONIGHT

Tonight, Friday, 24 May 2019 at 6:00 p.m., there will be cooking and socializing at Odriana’s. We will do this every fourth Friday of the month. If it isn’t raining/going to rain, we’ll be cooking the chicken outdoors and then bringing it in to bake. While it’s baking, we will take some time to talk about what we’d like to do in the future.

We’ll be cooking something out of Libellus de arte conquinaria: An early northern cookery book. It’s the oldest known collection of European culinary recipes written in a vernacular language. I chose something from Manuscript W, written in medieval Dutch. Constance B. Hieatt did the translation.

Next, one should make a container out of flour and water. [In it] put a hen all cut to pieces, add bacon neatly diced as small as peas, pepper, and many egg yolks, beaten with saffron. Cover the container with dough and let it bake in an oven. These are hen pies.

There is limited parking at the house, however, there is a parking lot adjacent to my property for people to park and walk over. If you need to drop someone off and go park, that is perfectly fine. Looking forward to seeing y’all there! Please RSVP so I know who is coming.

Memorial Day Parade – Join Us Monday Morning!

Join the Barony (and our most favorite mercenaries, Clovenshield) as we march in the most charming neighborhood parade in Pittsburgh! Spend the morning with us as we march in the Lawrenceville Memorial Day parade, ending in the historic and beautiful Allegheny Cemetery.

Garb/armor required, because we are showing off to thousands of east-end Pittsburghers. Let’s drum up some new folks while strutting our stuff in style! Clovenshield is again leading the parade logistics, and will be providing the gorgeous float, for those who wish to ride and wave.

Fighters, you will never be more lauded and appreciated… come out and flaunt your skills for the not-yet-newbies. Not a fighter? Great, come walk or ride, waving at babies and blowing kisses to veterans – this demo is a blast!

If parading isn’t your style, we have fun for you, too! At the end of the parade is a community picnic, with food trucks and entertainment, and the Barony has a table! Help Lord Ronan talk to interested folks there!

Need more reason to come? Ice cream at the end is on the Baroness!

Plan to start staging at 9am. Park at the end of the parade and take the free shuttle to the staging area. The parade ends by your car! Read more about the details here:
http://debatablelands.org/events/2019-05-27%20Memorial%20Day%20Parade.php

Deep thanks to Lord Yingerz and Lady Kat Fixis for arranging our participation and the float, and to Lord Ronan for agreeing to set up the table at the community picnic.

BMDL unit in action at Æ War Practice

Greetings from your BMDL unit commander!

Æthelmearc practiced for War last Saturday, and the Debatable Lands contributed their finest to support Æthelwald against the noble armies of the Middle and the Tuchux.

I would like to thank Sirs Byron of Haverford, Ariella of Thornberry, and Finn Marland O’Shannon; my deputy THL Kumagaya Kentarou Masamoto; and my man-at-arms Ingvar Sviatoslavich for their valor, prowess, and dedication to fighting all of the field and bridge battles. Though we were outnumbered in every scenario, we fought as a strong, cohesive unit. I am very pleased with how everyone fought and appreciate that you chose to be part of the Comet Army.

We seek more fighters who wish to gain glory for Barony and Kingdom! Please contact me (rstrobel@gmail.com) or find me at practice Sundays at 2pm at the Washington Blvd site to join our unit! Pennsic will be here soon and the Comet shall shine bright upon the field of battle in defense of our lands!

Maighster Kieran MacRae
