Good afternoon Debatable Lands!

Four days is the deadline for the Althing, please send me all of your reports, content and information for publication before the end of day on June 15th to Chronicler@debatablelands.org or if you are on social media come find me on Facebook!

I would love to hear how you are keeping up with your SCA adventures while in quarantine, what new things you have learned, or the way that you have been practicing and I am sure that our wonderful Barony would be happy hear what you have been up to and have another way to connect while we are all apart from one another.

Gwen here, reminding you that we will be screening “Monty Python & the Holy Grail” tonight at 8PM (EDT)!

You must download the full Discord desktop version to be able to participate in voice and screen share.

Steps to configure Discord:

1. download /install the app; create an account; open & log in

2. add the server: https://discord.gg/etM85e

3. Adjust sound settings (you may have to click on the mic and then authorize your computer to use the mic and camera and such)

4. Maybe restart the app?

5. if you still can’t hear things, look on the channel and see if there’s a thing to click on that says to authenticate the server

If you have ever been frustrated while trying to sew gores, this is the class for you. Our instructor Mistress Ts’vee’a bas Tseepora Levi will go over hand sewing and machine sewing instructions for sewing gores. This class is for anyone who wants to sew the perfect gore. Class will be online via zoom on Thursday, June 18th. If you have questions or if you would like to teach a garment and/or sewing class online, contact sewing at debatablelands dot org.

Online sewing, ironing, cutting, knitting, and/or braiding will be this Thursday June 4th from 7:30 – 10:00. There is no agenda, but the theme is “It ain’t necessarily sew”. Having fabric or fiber fun with friends is fabulous. Later in June there is a class about sewing gores. The details will follow shortly. I am also encouraging anyone who would like to teach a garb, sewing, or some other fabric or fiber class on zoom to contact me: sewing at debatablelands dot org.

Our screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail will be held on Saturday, June 6th, at 8PM. Many thanks to Ishiyama and Hara for helping to facilitate the screening.

We will use my discord to share the screen and audio. If you wish to participate, you will need to download the desktop version of Discord and log in on an account, and join my server. I will post a link to join within 24 hours of the film.

It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Xerox (Zack), the son of Lady Vika Vyborgskaia (our MoL) and step-son of Master Jussi Laplein, passed away unexpectedly yesterday.

Xerox brought Vika and Jussi into the SCA at just 13 years old, as his birthday wish was to camp at Pennsic. As a boy, he was a youth fighter. At Pennsic, he camped with the House of the Blue Rose (Serenity Stone). Xerox a was good-hearted, loving, and caring man, and was an Organ Donor.

We offer our deepest condolences to his mother, Lady Vika, his step-father Master Jussi, and his friends and family.

Lady Vika has asked for time and space to grieve and process, and wishes it known that they have the support of close friends and family.

Due to the pandemic, there will not be a funeral or memorial service at this time. His family hopes to hold a service when they can. Currently, the family requests no flowers or gifts. However, if you would like to make a personal donation (non-SCA) to help cover his unexpected final costs, you can send donations directly to Vika via PayPal (ulvika@yahoo.com), or to her home address. Greetings until the Noble Populace of the Debatable Lands from Muirgheal inghean Dubhghaill, Seneschal Debatable.

In these interesting times with our restrictions starting to be lifted in careful measures, I would like to remind you that at this time under the advice of the Kingdom Seneschal and the Local Medical Community, the Debatable Lands is not hosting any martial activities of any kind.

I remind you all that we are doing this to keep each other safe from the pox which currently stretches beyond our borders, and that while we are all anxious to get back to business, we must do so with great care and consideration for the common good. We are beginning our discussions to see how, when it is prudent to do so, we can proceed safely. More information will be forthcoming. If you have questions or concerns, please come to me or seek out any Officer of the DebatableLands with whom you are comfortable speaking.

Be safe, check in on each other, wash your hands, be the neighbor that Lord Frederick would wish you to be!
