Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, head of the Baronial Scribes’ Guild!
First, I would like to thank everyone who attended last Wednesday’s Scriptorium Roundtable. We had several gentles from the Debatable Lands, Sunderoak and Gryffyn’s Keep, and held an excellent discussion of the kinds of things, including specific classes that people would like to see as well as evening organizational formats. We are looking forward to a productive and educational Scriptorium open to one and all.
Second, speaking of Scriptorium: next month’s Scriptorium will be a class on gilding note cards taught by Mistress Antoinette de la Croix. This class will be held at Carnegie Mellon University in the Pake Room in the University Center. The class will begin at 6:30pm and end at 9:30pm If you would like additional information, or have any questions, please contact Mistress Antoinette directly at mistressantoinettedelacroixATgmail.com.
Starting in June, we expect to return to our regularly scheduled time and place, 7pm at our house in the North Hills.
Finally, thank you to everyone in the Barony and surrounding areas who attended yesterday’s Macclesfield Psalter workshop, to Mistress Antoinette for teaching, and of course to Their Majesties for opening up Their lovely home so that students from across the Kingdom could gather to learn calligraphy, illumination and gilding techniques taken from this beautiful 14th c. manuscript.
Scribal activities are alive and well in the Barony, and I look forward to working with everyone who is interested in learning these rich and rewarding arts to help continue making the Æthelmearc College of Scribes the envy of the Known World.
In Honor and Service,
Kameshima Zentarō Umakai

Greetings to the Debatable Lands from Odriana vander Brugghe!
Recently I was confirmed as the new Seneschal of our amazing Barony. Thank you to our hard-working outgoing Seneschal, Master Alaric MacConnal for his years of service. I would also like to thank my incoming Deputy Seneschals, THL Isabel Fleuritan and Lord Pavel Dudoladev, for stepping up to take on that role.
As the new Seneschal, I want to say hello and invite each of you to seek me out either virtually (email is typically the best way to find me, firstname.lastname@example.org), by voice (my number is 412.213.8116), or in person and tell me your ideas and thoughts about our Barony. What would you like to see? How are we doing as a Barony? What could we be doing better? I promise that I will listen to you and do what I can to make your ideas happen and address your concerns to the best of my ability. I look forward to hearing from you.
The job of Seneschal is to make sure that the corporate end of the SCA runs efficiently. But, my personal goal is to make sure that everyone has what they need to make their hobby fun. This shared hobby that we have is, at its core, about having fun together and sharing our unique talents with each other. I love the Debatable Lands and want us to continue to be as amazing and enthusiastic as I know we are and to continue be such a vibrant part of our Kingdom.
To introduce myself to those who have not yet gotten to know me: Currently, I am the Clerk of the Fleur d’Æthelmearc. Previously I have served the Barony as its Signet, the Kingdom as Chancellor of the Æcademy, and have had the pleasure of serving the Barony in several other offices and positions over the years. I’m also an active scribe and cook and am presently an MOL in training. I’ve been active (at various levels) in the Barony since 1988.
I love this Barony deeply and am honored to serve each and every one of you.

Hello Debatable Lands!
Their Majesties’ missive in the May Kingdom newsletter mentions that They wish to continue to receive recommendation letters! We hope everyone will continue to write in worthy gentles. To make it a little easier for you:
Anyone, from newcomers to Royal Peers! Anyone can be recognized for their good works. If you’re not sure if the person has the award you are thinking of recommending, check the Order of Precedence.
If you need some inspiration for Debatable Landers, Steltonwalders, and Cour d’Or folks, scroll through the Dark Pages (under Off-site resources)!
There’s a nice list of Kingdom awards here: http://www.sca.org/awards/aethelmearc.html.
There’s also some more detail about what awards are appropriate in the series of articles in the Althing from a few years ago. Here’s a quick link to the articles directly. The articles are outdated by a few years (missing some awards, like the new Peerage!). We’ll work on an update soon, but the information is still handy in the meantime.
For Kingdom awards, either use the form here, or email email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org (make sure your subject line is clear).
We also love Baronial award recommendations for Comets and the Order of Copernicus! We’re working on writing a more detailed description of those (watch this space), but no need to wait! You can email those to us directly at email@example.com, and firstname.lastname@example.org.

Debatable Lands fencing practice will continue this week at the Environmental Charter School starting at 2 PM.
Remember that this is our last scheduled indoor practice of the year and next week we will be at the Washington Blvd. site. Unless the weather doesn’t cooperate, in which case we will be using the ECS as backup, and will announce the change on this list.
