Barony Meeting – THIS SUNDAY

The July Barony Meeting will be held this Sunday, 21 July 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Washington Blvd Practice Site. The forecast is supposed to be hot and humid. If you want to be added to the docket, please contact Maighstir Kieran MacRae (herald at debatablelands.org).

This being the last Barony Meeting pre-Pennsic (next week, y’all), there are a zillion cool things happening all at once:

Tierrany is hosting a largesse workshop both before & after the Barony meeting, starting around 12 and ending when it ends.

Nicola will be bringing materials to make medallions – cords will be needed and they are seeking someone with the knowledge and materials to make them.

Eet Yeo will be helping us create fun yet simple leather items such as medallions and bracelets.

There will also be materials for felt dragons, colored pencil arrow sets, and bead strings. Tables are needed, if you have a table that you can bring, please do so!

Baroness Constance will be running the garb swap by the usual rules — Newcomers first then everyone else. We are also being asked to bring an item to donate to Paladin’s Pantry or CareBox Pittsburgh.. This is not a sale, this is a giveaway.

Immediately following the Barony Meeting, there will be a class for new Pennsic-goers called “So, it’s your first Pennsic” and taught by Lord Ronin. This is a valuable class that will give you a better idea of what to expect and what kinds of things you can do at Pennsic. Even if you’re not able to attend this year and would like to get an idea of what Pennsic is like, this class would also be useful for you.

If I’ve forgotten something – please let me know.

Woodworking at Pennsic

The Honorable Lord Kai Saerprenn reports that he will be running his Intro to Woodworking series again this year at Pennsic. This set of classes takes you from raw logs (Really! He gets his materials from the firewood people at firewood prices.) to furniture by showing you all the tools used along the way (and how to sharpen them).

These classes are taught in THL Kai’s camp of Hus Faerhaga in N08, quite conveniently near the Barony’s camp.

Also in N08 are THL Otelia d’Alsace’s hand tool demonstrations, in the Barony of Thescorre encampment.

Lastly, in the main Pennsic University area, Sir Bedwyr will be demonstrating how to use a variety of of Eurpoean hand tools.

Check the Schedule for more information.

Wood Shop Day Today

Join us today, July 14th for the last Woodworking Guild Shop Day before Pennsic, in Ishiyama’s shop in Point Breeze, from 10am to 2pm.

If you have any wood projects you need or want for Pennsic, now’s your chance to get advice and help making them. If you have no ideas, bring a 6 or 8 foot board from the hardware store and we’ll help you figure out something useful to make from it.

Send email to “woodworking (at) debatablelands.org” if you have any questions or need the address.

A&S Activity Round-up!

July is BOOMING with great opportunities for A&S fun. Here’s a round-up of some of the great plans that have been advertised:

On Friday July 12 at 7 pm we’re going to meet at the the Frick museum in Pittsburgh (not the NYC one) to look at and geek about their four early sixteenth century French and Flemish tapestries, and then look at some medieval paintings and artifacts in their collection. RSVP appreciated.

What else is going on? Any last minute pre-Pennsic workshops or fun activities? Send me a note and I’d be happy to distribute the info far and wide!
