Baronial Martial Championships This June!

Hello Debatable Lands! We are happy to announce the dates for our Martial Championships this year!

Sunday, June 9th – Thrown Weapons and Heavy Fighting
(June 16th rain date)

Sunday, June 23rd – Archery and Rapier Fighting
(June 30th rain date)

Sunday, June 30th – Youth Archery and Youth Fighting
(rain date tbd)

Our Equestrians Champs will be held later in year.

Attaining the Championship of the Largest Barony in the Kingdom is a great honor, and we can’t wait to see the prowess of our martial enthusiast on the fields and ranges!

As usual, only Debatable Landers and those that hold Friend of the Barony (Green/Cometus Amicus) Comets are eligible to become Champions, except for the Youth Championships. For both Youth Championships, we allow Youths from our neighboring groups eligibility, since their opportunity for glorious competition of this type is far less than what adults enjoy across the Kingdom.

Besides the Glory and Honor of representing the Barony-Marche of the Debatable Lands, winning our Baronial Championship also means you can join us in our Baronial Court on the dais, you can participate in Known World Baronial Champions’ activities at Pennsic, and you may display the regalia of the honor you achieved. You also have the honor representing the Debatable Lands in the Seven Pearls Championship, where all seven Baronial Champions in the Kingdom will compete to be the BEST of the Best in their respective areas. The Seven Pearls Championships will be held in Delftwood on Labor Day weekend this year.

We look forward to it!

In Levitate et Caritate, and Cheers
Baron Brandubh and Baroness Hilda

Wood Shop Day 04.28 report

It was a bit chillier than expected, and a lot less sunny than hoped for, so we were not able to spread out into the driveway. In spite of the weather, we did manage to get a lot of work done under cover in the garage, much more than one person could have done safely alone, so thanks to everybody who was able to make it. We did a bunch of cutting and shaping to make pieces. Next steps involve cutting joinery onto the pieces, which means a lot of marking of the locations for that joinery first.

The Woodworking Guild’s next planning meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 23rd from 7pm to 9pm at the Panera in Oakland.

The next Woodworking Guild shop day is scheduled for Sunday, June 2nd, but the time and location has yet to be determined.

No thrown weapons practice

Konichiwa Debatable lands. Be due to the excess of rain in recent days, I’m cancelling practice for this week. The ground is just to saturated to be safe, and the grass is taller than I would like, so finding weapons would be difficult. My goal is to have everything cut before next week’s practice. Hopefully the weather cooperates.

TONIGHT – Cooking and Socializing at Odriana’s

Tonight, Friday, 26 April 2019 at 6:00 p.m., there will be cooking and socializing at Odriana’s. We will do this every fourth Friday of the month. As weather in Western PA is wont to do, it has shifted and now looks like rain through the afternoon and evening, so we will be cooking indoors.

This first meeting will be cooking something out of Scappi, talking about food safety in non-traditional kitchen environments, and reviewing basic knife skills. More social than traditional teaching, don’t feel like you need to have some level of cooking skills.

I’ve selected recipe 119 from the Opera – “To stew every sort of capon and domestic hen”. I will be providing the ingredients.

There is limited parking at the house, however, there is a parking lot adjacent to my property for people to park and walk over. If you need to drop someone off and go park, that is perfectly fine. To get location information and add it to your personal calendar click here. You can also contact me at jenn.strobel(at)gmail.com.

Looking forward to seeing y’all there!
