Hello Debatable Lands!

Pennsic is fast approaching. Have you pre-registered yet? Online paid registrations end Saturday, June 17th. If you are camping with the Debatable Lands (“Debatable Lands” in the registration drop-down), you MUST pre-register, paid. Lots of other camps have this requirement, too. Have you pre-regged yet? Go ahead… I’ll wait.

Make sure to keep Monday of War Week open. We’re having our annual Pennsic Baronial Reception and Court, starting at 4pm, Aug 7th, in AEthelmearc Royal. The potluck worked out so well last year, we’re doing it again! Coordinator is Lady Zianna. Tell us what you’re bringing here. There’s also a Facebook event for the Baronial Reception, for those who do Facebook. Here it is. Court will be near the beginning this year (we need Comet recommendations! Email us! baron@debatablelands.org and baroness@debatablelands.org). Can’t wait to see everyone!

This year, the Barony is sponsoring a Helga Ball Tourney to benefit Paladin’s Pantry. Saturday, Aug 5th, 12:30pm on the field. Trust me, it’s awesome. Read more here. Make team (ladies only), or come and watch!

Camping with the Debatable Lands? Great! Did you pre-reg? Good! Did you contact our Camp Reeve, Master Emrys (Broom)? Please do. He needs your tent and arrival info. Scriptorium is the monthly gathering of calligraphers, illuminators,
wordsmiths, and anyone interested in taking up and learning more about
these creative arts. We welcome all skill levels, from the most
accomplished Laurels to those that have never picked up a pen or a
brush. Become part of creating the atmosphere and visual splendor of the
SCA!

This month, join us on Wednesday, June 21st, from 7:00pm
to 9:00pm at Kameshima and Isabel’s house in the North Hills. (Our
address is listed in the Dark Pages, or you can contact us at
scriptorium at debatablelands dot org for more information.)
We will once again be holding an Open Project and Small Group Workshop Night.

Bring your current assignment, or something that you’re currently
learning, practicing or tinkering with. Lots of table space will be made
available. Be careful if the recipient is a local scribe, though; we
love looking over each other’s shoulders, and we wouldn’t want the
surprise to be ruined! 🙂 Alternately, if there is something specific
with which you’re looking for individualized assistance, please send
mail to scriptoriumat debatablelands dot org in advance and we will see
what we can do to get a teacher there to work with you!

Please be aware, our house contains two cats, a dog, and an infant:
medicate or otherwise prepare yourself as necessary.

Greeting to the Debatable Lands!

My term as exchequer ends at the August meeting. I have enjoyed serving in this role and have learned much about the working of the barony and its events, but will not be renewing my term again. This is a call for letters of intent for the office. If you are interested in serving as the exchequer, please send a letter with your intent, listing any experience that is relevant to the position, and other information about yourself to the seneschal and the exchequer. The email addresses are on the website. If you submit a letter, if would be good if you can also attend the August meeting to explain your background and interest as well as answer questions if there are any.

This upcoming Sunday we will be having archery practice at the usual spot (Highland Park) 11am-2pm.

During this upcoming practice, Lord Ronan O’Conal will be running an archery tournament to decide who will represent the Barony Marche in the Scarlet guard challenge, at the event Scarlett​ Guard Inn.

Come one come all to Archery practice this Sunday. (weather permitting)

Good afternoon from this year’s lunch cook. Here is the English menu. I am very excited to be working on this and can’t wait to get the details on the what I hear is going to be a rockin French feast.

I have started all of the documentation for these recipes in order for them to tested and tried. I have several people that have asked or I have asked to take on one of the items so that everyone can get familiar the feast preparation process. If you are interested in maybe taking on a recipe reach out and let me know.

I have several people that are making parts of the items such as pickles and smoked olives – growing fava beans – making a cheese – churning butter. If you have something you are working on or would like to try on a smaller scale – let me know.

We will need set up – refilling – and clean up helping hands as well. If you know of a youth that would like to get involved – let me know. There are many ways to let them get involved in the kitchen.
