A and S — Making a Viking Necklace – Feb 15

Greetings to the Debatable Lands!

Thursday is now once again for A&S in BMDL, and we are starting up with Viking Bead Stringing! If you are wearing an apron-dress, you need a Viking necklace. Bring your beads and I will help you string your bling!

We will be at Victory Pointe Gaming Lounge (and ice-cream parlor), upstairs in the game room, at 1113 Carson Street on the South Side, starting at 7 PM. Come early if you wish, people start arriving about 6:45.

Upstairs is not Accessible, so if you need assistance or have questions, please call or text me at 724-759-3333.

Be sure to park safely — feed the meter if needed. They ticket like crazy on the South Side. I think the best place is across the street in the bank parking lot.

See you there!

Armor and weapons – do you have them? Are you working on some? Show them off – test them out? I would love to see gentles able to fight a Knight! Fencers – come one come all! We have space for you! Archers? Lets make an arrow – ready those bows. Are we preparing those thrown weapons – display them – talk about them – we will soon be out in the park again! Tell that story from a balcony – sing that song strolling down the our village streets. Hear the music playing!

Tavern at the Park – Singing! And more!

Before lunch (11-12) I will be leading a practice of the Pilgrimage songs, your chance to learn or review the songs sung on our Pilgrimage at Pennsic. After lunch gather round for a sharing Bardic event: share a story or song, or request one! Want to learn or hear something? Post comments here and I’ll bring in the lyrics and/or the person to bring them alive in our circle. General or specific requests welcome (you know you want to sing our Barony song in Latin!).

–Bugga Bilibit

After lunch, we will gather round for a Bardic Circle and enjoy singing, storytelling, jokes and whatever anyone has to share. It’s fun just to listen, too!

Youth Combat Practice

Hi everyone!

We have had a couple of great practices this winter. This past Sunday, we had friends from Wheeling join us. As of right now Feb 4th and Feb 11th, we will be having practice at the Chinese Church at 2pm. I would love to get as many youth as possible to the Feb 4th practice. I would like to have a meeting with them.

Also as many of you know, I have a grandson due anytime now. This will not affect fighting practice. Mistress Arianna will hold the practice if I should be at the hospital with my daughter.

Hope to see everyone on Sunday!

Scribal East (with music!) This Thursday

From THL Rachel Delicieux, via the BMDL email list (so apologies for this being posted there twice):

Hello everyone. Want to learn how to shade acanthus leaves like a boss? Or learn basic calligraphy? Or try a “scary” Black Hours scroll? (And discover that they’re actually a piece of cake!) Lady Ceindrich and I will be hosting the third Scribal East (With Music!) get-together this Thursday 11/30 at Lady Ceindrich’s home in Monroeville. (PM me or check Dark Pages for address.) Beginner recorder will start at 6:30, and I have recorders and music available. Scribal will start at 7. Come play with us!

Scribal Guild cancelled for 10/18 and call for interest

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, Scribal Guildmaster. Our apologies for the late notice, but we are canceling tonight’s Scriptorium.

As many may have noticed, we have had to cancel a number of the recently scheduled Scriptoria due to mundane life issues. It has become apparent to both Isabel and myself that we are not presently able to give the Guild the attention it is due. Therefore, we are looking for a volunteer to assume leadership of the Scribal Guild and responsibility for hosting the periodic Baronial Scriptorium.

If you are interested in this position, please contact me at scriptorium at debatablelands dot org for more information.

Reminder: Scriptorium THIS WEDNESDAY

Unto the Barony, greetings from Kameshima, Scribal Guildmaster! This is your reminder that the monthly Scriptorium will be held tomorrow night, for those of you not planning on attending the Baronial Business Meeting.
Scriptorium is the monthly gathering of calligraphers, illuminators, wordsmiths, and anyone interested in taking up and learning more about these creative arts. We welcome all skill levels, from the most accomplished Laurels to those that have never picked up a pen or a brush. Become part of creating the atmosphere and visual splendor of the SCA!
Join us tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 16, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at Kameshima and Isabel’s house in the North Hills. (Our address is listed in the Dark Pages, or you can contact us at scriptorium at debatablelands dot org for more information.) We will once again be holding an Open Project and Small Group Workshop Night, with a focus on creating the Baronial Invitations for the upcoming Æthelmearc 20th Anniversary and Crown Tournament event.
Bring your current assignment, or something that you’re currently learning, practicing or tinkering with. Lots of table space will be made available. Be careful if the recipient is a local scribe, though; we love looking over each other’s shoulders, and we wouldn’t want the surprise to be ruined! 🙂 Alternately, if there is something specific with which you’re looking for individualized assistance, please send mail to scriptoriumat debatablelands dot org in advance and we will see what we can do to get a teacher there to work with you!
Please be aware, our house contains two cats, a dog, and a toddler: medicate or otherwise prepare yourself as necessary.
In Honor and Service,
